Blog Tour Interview & Giveaway - The Perfect Boyfriend by Renee Novelle

The Perfect Boyfriend (Boyfriend #2)
by Renee Novelle
Publication Date: July 27th, 2014
Genres: New Adult Romance

Synopsis:

The Perfect Boyfriend picks up right where we left Reagan and Ian in The Boyfriend List.

As their friendship blossoms quickly into a steamy romance, Reagan and Ian have to learn to navigate their shifting relationship…and everything that entails. But their newfound bliss doesn’t come without a few unexpected challenges.

In the midst of realizing just how sweet the romance can be between them, and all the benefits of their new dynamic, Reagan is informed that her ideal situation has changed. Not only will she need to begin taking on more classes to speed up her graduation date, but she’ll also have to start looking for a job to supplement her fading income. Meanwhile, Ian has chosen to pull out of school once his father is diagnosed with a terminal illness in order to help manage the family business and spend time with him while he still can. But he wrestles with the guilt of leaving Reagan behind, and the pressure of his new responsibilities.

As the two meet their new challenges head-on, they’ll be forced to discover whether or not they’re as compatible as lovers as they were as friends. With their focus pulled in so many directions, will they have what it takes to keep a long distance relationship alive? Can Ian prove that he’s still be the perfect boyfriend, or will they fold to statistics under the growing tensions of their lives? Throw in some manipulative exes, a new boss with an inflated ego, and a co-worker from hell and the two have a recipe for either a fairy tale ending, or a complete disaster.

The Perfect Boyfriend is a New Adult Romance about trust, love, and discovering the true depths of personal strength.

Author Interview

1. Tell a little about yourself. What you do when you’re not writing? What are your aspirations for the future?

When I'm not writing and I have a few minutes of glorious free time - which is a rarity these days - I'm usually found reading a book, enjoying an evening out at a concert or theatrical performance, practicing yoga or taking a walk on the beach. I'm so fortunate to live close to the ocean, it's a great way to clear the mind and get creative juices flowing again. As for the future... we'll see where it leads! I have a lot of other books plotted out, but I have to juggle those between my journalism assignments and my day job also.

2. When and why did you start writing?

There's never been a time in my life when I haven't been writing. I started jotting down stories and writing short books when I was nine years old, and storytelling has been a passion of mine ever since.

3. Have any particular novels or writers influenced your writing?

I think that Nora Roberts has had a strong influence in the way I develop characters and balance real life complexities. I read a lot of her work when I was in college, and really connected with her easy writing style.

4. Give us some backstory behind The Perfect Boyfriend. Where and when did you write it?

The first book in the series, The Boyfriend List, sort of evolved over a long period of time, and it's gone through a lot of revisions over the years. I started the initial concept when I was just out of college myself, but I tucked the idea and initial draft away. At the time, the New Adult category didn't exist, and the story just didn't seem right in any other genre. Then when New Adult started picking up popularity, I knew that was the perfect voice for this story. So I pulled it out, dusted it off, updated and revised it, and here we are. I never intended for it to become a series, but I was so thrilled by readers responses to want to know more about Reagan and Ian that I started outlining the next two books, thus The Perfect Boyfriend became the continuation. It was a lot of fun to explore Reagan and Ian's lives a little more, and to see where their relationship would take them. Some of the scenes were a complete surprise to me, while others I used to explore a more typical college life.

5. What was your favourite part of writing The Perfect Boyfriend?

I think I really loved taking Reagan and Ian's relationship a little deeper. The first book was so sweet and innocent, it was really the story of a new romance blossoming. In The Perfect Boyfriend, their relationship matures a little, they explore each other more, take their love to the next level and get tested quite a few times along the way.

6. What does your writing schedule look like?

My writing schedule varies so much because I'm always juggling my day job and a handful of article assignments from various magazines. But I love staying busy and having multiple projects going on, so it's satisfying.

7. Which fictional character would you like to take to dinner and why?

Petra. She's pure entertainment!

8. Besides your lead, do you have a favourite character in the story?

Oh I absolutely love Ian! He's definitely the ideal guy in the way he cares about Reagan and is attentive to her - even during some rather difficult struggles of his own. I think the readers will really enjoy his character.

9. What is one of the most surprising things you've learned as a writer?

I'm not really sure, actually. I kind of went into this whole thing very aware of what the industry was like and how readers behave when they either embrace or discard a writer. I've been reading about other writers journeys in publishing for about ten years now, so I was pretty prepared for whatever may evolve from this. I think that had some advantages.

10. Any advice for aspiring authors?

Write because you have to. Because it's what you love to do in your free time and because you have a story to tell for yourself. And for no other reason. Practice your craft, hone your skills and give the best that you have in you.
