GUEST POST
The Origin of Family Magic
I’ve always wanted to be a writer, ever since I was twelve years old and read a Nancy Drew mystery. It was my first young adult book. I’d been raised on hard-core science fiction and fantasy thanks to my father who had me deep into his own favorites at a very young age. So, when I devoured that mystery in two hours, a little voice in my head whispered, “You can do that.”
I listened, to my father’s delight, and began writing my own books immediately. Of course, it’s taken me a lot of years to develop the skills to actually create what that voice told me I could. In fact, I came through university, college and a journalism degree, and years of screenwriting and film making before I finally reached the place where writing books made sense.
My path had led me to a choice—move away from the home I loved to a large city and write television full time or give writing books one more chance. I thought I’d made up my mind, only to wake in the middle of the night with a girl’s voice in my head. She badgered and ordered me to get up until I did, going to my office to write out what she told me: my mom’s a witch, my dad’s a demon and I just want to be ordinary.
Sydlynn Thaddea Hayle burst into my life like a firecracker and took me over completely. Within two weeks of our introduction, I had written Family Magic, the first book in the twenty-volume Hayle Coven Novels and was in awe of what I’d made.
She’s dominated my writing life ever since and I’m so excited to see her and her books have the opportunity to reach so many readers thanks to World’s Best Story and Premiere/FastPencil. Syd was always meant to shine.
