ReplyDeleteI read reviews and ask friends.
ReplyDeleteI get ideas on what to read from book blogs, Amazon browsing and reviews, and word-of-mouth from friends.
ReplyDeleteReviews, covers, and excerpts usually sway me; thanks for the giveaway. :)
ReplyDeleteI read what me friends like.
ReplyDeleteFirst, if they are free. Two, the cover, three the blurb maybe....I try to give all types a try. If I hate it I just stop reading it.
ReplyDeleteI honestly try not to read reviews, because book reviews are a bit subjective. Did you like or dislike, essentially, when my interests may differ from others. The only thing I look for is info about there being a ton of mistakes in the book. Books that are in dire need of a good editor. Lately, I've mostly picked new books to read by looking at my library's digital borrow options; otherwise, I like to get a free book in a series to check out before buying the rest. One of those people that really prefers a series to a standalone :)
ReplyDeleteI should add that it's more not reading the star ratings. The text isn't too bad. 5 stars from me can differ from 5 stars from another, but the text should be a solid explanation of what they noticed
DeleteI tend to pick books by subject matter.
ReplyDeleteFriend recommendations, how interesting the cover/back blurb is.
ReplyDeletebook blogs with reviews are helpful.
ReplyDeleteBook blogs or other book websites.
ReplyDeleteI decide via good reads, book blogs and friend's recommendations. Also if a book's cover catches my eye.
ReplyDeleteWell.. Usually by buddy reads on goodreads.
ReplyDeleteI have so many favorite authors, I enjoy several genres more than others, I also will pick up a book to read if I like the cover. I am definitely a cover person!!
ReplyDeleteIf the synopsis catches my attention then I'd skim a few of the negative reviews to see if there are aspects present in the book that I'd dislike or if I'm seeing an overly hyped book then I eventually end up giving in to see what all the fuss is about. Also, list recommendations help me choose my next book to buy pretty often.
ReplyDeleteI have found several new authors by reading reviews (blogs).
ReplyDeleteMost of the time my attention gets drawn by the cover´s book, then I go for goodreads to get more knowdlege with the positive and negatives spoiler-free reviews there. :D
ReplyDeleteI decide by author reputation and reviews.
ReplyDeleteI read book descriptions on Goodreads and I read reviews on blogs I follow.

ReplyDeleteIf it sounds great to me, then more than likely I am going to read regardless of reviews. I still check out reviews, but they don't make or break a book for me. They do help to temper my sky high expectations sometimes though, and that has helped a lot!

ReplyDeleteI pick by recommendations, if I've read and liked the authors other work, or if I win it.
ReplyDeleteI read based on whatever I'm in the mood to read.
ReplyDeleteI rely on book reviews and recommendations from friends.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's the cover (get's stuck in my head) or the author (when I'm a fan I pretty much read their books without even reading the summary) and then there are those that are just a recommendations that have been floating around in the FB groups I'm a part of or I stumple upon it on a review. It's not just one thing for me. I sometimes get stuck with an idea about a story and google it and then there are goodreads lists that help me pinpoint what I want. Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteReviews and I am a cover lover. I judge a book by its cover and I also seem to stick to the same genres.

ReplyDeleteFrom all the book blogs I follow
ReplyDeleteI go by reviews mostly, on Goodreads and Amazon
ReplyDeleteI decide what books I am going to read both by recommendations and reviews. I read books recommended to me because the person recommending a book knows my likes. I also look at reviews because they really give you the information you need to decide if a book is for you.
