Book Blitz & Giveaway - Fan Art by Sarah Tregay

Fan Art
Release Date: 06/17/14
Publisher: HarperTeen

Summary from Goodreads:
When the picture tells the story…

Senior year is almost over, and Jamie Peterson has a big problem. Not college—that’s all set. Not prom—he’ll find a date somehow. No, it’s the worst problem of all: he’s fallen for his best friend.

As much as Jamie tries to keep it under wraps, everyone seems to know where his affections lie, and the giggling girls in art class are determined to help Jamie get together with Mason. But Jamie isn’t sure if that’s what he wants—because as much as Jamie would like to come clean to Mason, what if the truth ruins everything? What if there are no more road trips, taco dinners, or movie nights? Does he dare risk a childhood friendship for romance?

This book is about what happens when a picture reveals what we can’t say, when art is truer than life, and how falling in love is easy, except when it’s not. Fan Art explores the joys and pains of friendship, of pressing boundaries, and how facing our worst fears can sometimes lead us to what we want most.

Author Interview

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I was born in England, i'm 17 and i'm currently doing A levels in creative writing, English literature, art and photography.

My key interest is writing, it wasn't long before I came across wattpad and started putting story plans into action. The Divided was the first story I wrote on the website, going through a few name and plot changes over the year. The plans for that story were made 2 years before I joined wattpad, and it was only when I found the plans a few weeks after joining that I started writing it.

2. What types of books do you write?

On wattpad, the books I am writing all contain teenage characters, so I guess 'teen fiction' is the key theme. The divided has several themes, there are suggestions of paranormal activity such as the dreams Alyssa and Shayne share, and many twists along the way. The idea for the story was to leave hints and clues through twists in the [lot to be interpreted to the readers imagination. That runs through all the books i'm currently writing :)

3. How many books have you written?

On wattpad, I have written 3 books:

- The Divided (bxg)
- Takes One To Know One (bxb)
- Twin Assassin (action/thriller)

Over the year I have spent on wattpad, I have written and deleted many stories, the key one I regret deleting was called 'Vengeance' which was about a male teen character who was the first human to be built, in which I am going to re-write, so look out for it! :)

4. What movie and or book are you looking forward to this year?

Movies:
The Hunger Games - Mockingjay

Books:
Sequels to books on wattpad

5. What type of books do you enjoy reading?

I like any book that has an original, such as 'kill my boyfriend' by amyscence, a writer on wattpad. The book is a sci-fi, which I wouldn't normally put into a category of books I enjoy reading. The main themes I look out for are teen fictions, the occasional bxb and studentxteacher, and anything zombie/assassin themed XD I could read any theme book so long as it's easy to read and contains interesting characters. :)

6. If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?

- A knife would be handy...
- lighter
- Solar powered kindle :3

7. Are you considering a sequel?

Not currently, after I complete writing 'Takes One To Know One' it would be a open to being a sequel, but unsure :)

8. What inspired you to become a writer?

Purely my imagination, since I was a kid i've always had strange dreams and characters I often used to draw. So I guess I put what I drew into words and took it from there :)

Author Interview

1. What inspired you to want to become a writer?
The one big comfort I had growing up was my love of reading. I enjoyed losing myself in tales filled with fantasy and wonder, and would often be found with two to three books hidden away on my person at any given moment. My only frustration was that hardily any of the books I loved had people in them that looked like me. That's where my passion for writing started. I just wanted to write the type of stories that I loved, and fill them with characters that were truly as wonderfully diverse as the world we live in. I now write for that teenaged girl I used to be, but also for all of the other teen girls of color out there who would love to see themselves in fantasy tales.

2. Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
For me, just having folks read and enjoy my book is the best reward. Getting in Goodreads and seeing reviews from folks who've read and enjoyed my story, well, that's the best feeling in the world!

3. If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! I'm a huge fan of J.K. Rowling. She did such a fantastic job of pulling together a well rounded and intricate tale of one boy's journey, that it truly has stayed with me for all of these years. I still go back from time to time and re-read them. I'll probably give my kids the entire series as a gift at a certain age as a reader's right of passage...once I have kids that is.

4. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Telekinesis. When you think about it, it's the perfect  superpower. You can defend yourself, both physically and mentally if you can get into someone's mind, and you can always know what folks are up to. Knowledge is power, but it can also be a big burden as well.

BOOK REVIEW: The Only Boy by Jordan Locke

The only boy
The Only Boy
Author: Jordan Locke
Genre: Young Adult, Dystopia
Publisher: Self-Published
Release Date: December 17, 2014

Book Summary:
Mary is stuck in Section One, living with three hundred women in a crumbling hospital. She wonders what life was like two centuries ago, before the Cleansing wiped out all the men. But the rules—the Matriarch's senseless rules—prevent her from exploring the vacant city to find out.

Taylor's got a dangerous secret: he's a boy. His compound's been destroyed, and he's been relocated to Section One. Living under the Matriarch means giving up possessions, eating canned food and avoiding all physical contact. Baggy clothes hide his flat chest and skinny legs, but if anyone discovers what lies beneath, he'll be exiled. Maybe even executed.

Mary's never seen a boy—the Matriarch cut the pictures of men from the textbooks—and she doesn't suspect Taylor's secret. If she knew, she might understand the need to stop the girls from teasing him. If she knew, she might realize why she breaks the rules, just to be near him. Then again, she might be frightened to death of him.

Taylor should go. The Matriarch is watching his every move. But running means leaving Mary—and braving the land beyond the compound's boundaries.

The Cursed Man by Keith Rommel

Could author be the next Stephen King?

Port St. Lucie writer Keith Rommel’s horror novel is being made into a motion picture!
BY AMY WOODS
Special to Florida Weekly

The next Stephen King could surface in sunny South Florida.

With troubling titles such as “The Lurking Man,” “The Sinful Man” and “The Cursed Man” now in production as a motion-picture thriller author Keith Rommel has taken on the tendencies of horror’s highness.

Wrote a reviewer at United Kingdom based BookLore of “The Cursed Man”: “This is a very well-written book, with a little bit of Stephen Kinglike horror. It will keep the reader interested, and it is a gem of a story.”

“I’m a fan of Stephen King, and to even be compared to somebody like that is very humbling,” Mr. Rommel said. “You’re your own worst critic, so I don’t necessarily agree with it, but I’ll take the compliment.”

While the 43-year-old Port St. Lucie resident has read a lot of King’s bestsellers, other authors have influenced the writing style of the hobbyist-turned hopeful.

ROMMEL “Iris Johansen, she’s a good writer,” Mr. Rommel said. “I really liked ‘The Search.’”

He also admits the “Left Behind” apocalyptic-fiction series has made as much of an impression on him as his collection of comic books.

Character Interview with Loki

Scratching the Surface...

1. What is your name?

Apprentice Lord Loki.  I don’t have a surname.  Or if I do, I never learned it.  Anyway, it really doesn’t matter if I do.  I shall always think of myself as born of the line of Dilthrop.

2. Why were you given that name?

Now that’s a damn good question.  I never knew either of my parents and my adoptive father hadn’t the barest clue.

3. Is there a nickname you’re known by? Do you prefer it?
Oh yes.  Each one of my geese have given me a special name known only to her.  Whichever I’m with, I prefer her name for me in that moment.

4. What is your birth date and current age?
Too many suns have crossed the arc of the sky for me to count.

5. What, if anything, does your zodiac sign mean to you?
Well, on the world known as earth, you would say it was Aquarius.  On the world where I was birthed, the suns were shaped slightly different but formed the same creature, but in masculine form.  My people lived among the merfolk, though above the surface of the sea.  They named him after their God, Merrick.  As for its meaning to me?  I really don’t put much stock into such nonsense.

6. What is your height, weight and build?
10 and a half . . . oh—wait.  Ha!  Taller than Lucias, shorter than Noliminan.  Never weighed myself, but the geese tell me I’m built like a stallion ready to stud.

Author Interview

1. Tell a little about yourself. What you do when you’re not writing? What are your aspirations for the future?

I live in Auckland, New Zealand, with my lovely husband and my cheeky three-year-old daughter. She’s pretty active, so looking after her involves finding as many things to do in a day as possible. We live near the beach, so we spend a lot of time there swimming and eating ice creams in the summer, and walking and building sandcastles in the winter.

I work part-time as the staff writer at a local tertiary institution, where I get to write about the research being done by various lecturers and professors. It’s an inspiring job, telling the stories of these fascinating people and their research, which is generally around topic they’re really passionate about, in an area that hasn’t been studied before. (And it doesn’t hurt as inspiration for my writing either!)

I also do karate, which I began in about mid-2013... Learning a martial art is something that’s always fascinated me, and I had this vague idea of being a role model to my daughter when I started. I’m now a yellow belt, and love the feeling of confidence that it gives me, and also the fitness that I’m gaining from the weekly classes. My other time out comes from yoga, which I really enjoy, despite not being very bendy. Both these activities require me to focus on my body, and help me to completely forget about the outside world for a while. It’s a truly amazing stress relief!

And of course I love reading and writing!

My aspirations for the future involve raising a kind, caring, delightful child as best I can, and allowing my novels to make it out into the world, for other people to read, and hopefully enjoy. And finally to get better at writing and telling stories as I go along.
