Interview

1. Please tell the readers a bit about yourself.
Hi there. I'm a British-born Chinese teenager, who can vaguely speak Latin, French, Spanish, Mandarin and Cantonese. I'm also not a bad chess player and I enjoy tennis, as well. Of course, I aim to develop as a writer and to, one day, get published.

2. What types of books do you write?
I write fantasy mainly, though I hope to delve into humour, some day.

3. How many books have you written?
None which are completed. Like many an aspiring writer, I write stuff and then get demotivated when I get to the black trench that is the Middle Of A Novel. Still, I hope to finish my current fantasy project, linked to above.

4. What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
Saving Mr Banks and Captain Philips: both are Tom Hank films. They look amazing and are both based on true stories. One is about Walt Disney's struggle to make a film out of PL Traver's novel, Mary Poppins. The other is about a ship which is hijacked by pirates and the captain's bravery in the face of adversity.

5. What type of books do you enjoy reading?
I enjoy reading the genres which I enjoy writing: fantasy, humour and, recently, I've delved into a bit of mystery and crime.

6. If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
1. A friend to talk to
2. Bear Grylls because he's, well, Bear Grylls
3. A water filter to clean water.

7. Are you considering a sequel?
Hm, I would be lying if I were to say "no", but I still stand by the fact that you should focus on a first novel, instead of thinking about how to stretch out an idea into a million dollar franchise. You should try and make the first novel as best you can, before you plan on making it into a series. Lots of "series" could have been made into one book, but the author just wanted to milk a good idea.

8. What inspired you to become a writer?
Of course, reading Harry Potter. As I have said in other interviews, I read the books and thought, "That seems easy!". I have since come to realise that I was very, very wrong

Excerpt

It is mid-afternoon when I call it a day. The police patrol will be out and about soon and we don’t want to highlight the fact that we are two teenagers living rough on the streets.

Placing the guitar back in the case, I lie beside Jack, who still has not moved an inch. I think about the humming which the homeless man mentioned and his face pressed close against mine.

Do you hear it, Luke? Do you hear the Hum? And all of a sudden, I do. It’s a low beat in the background -ever so slight like the drone of a bee trapped in a glass, yearning for escape, for the chance to be free.

I hear the same craving in the humming. It fills up every black void with… everything. I can feel every emotion, hear every song, see every wonder.

It’s as if the murmuring has followed me all my life.  Then the sound of distinct voices breaks through the spell; I can hear whispering in the Hum, like the quiet heartbeat of a world living just beyond ours.

A bright light floods through the crack in my eyelids and I feel strong winds buffeting me from everywhere.

The world is spinning and all sense of direction is gone. Then it all just stops. When I open my eyes, the sky is a starless blue, the buildings have vanished and hulking green trees surround me.

BOTM - Facebook Crush? by angellover254

Facebook Crush?

My whole life changed on September tenth, when he accepted my friend request on Facebook; a popular socializing network. That was almost two years ago, now I'm broken, and crying every single day...but what exactly happened? (Based on real life events)

Interview

1. Please tell the readers a bit about yourself.

Well, I'm seventeen-years-old, and I go by the name Angel on Wattpad. It's just a nickname, but mostly anyone can guess my real name if they read my bio. I'm about to start college, majoring under graphic designs. I'm probably going to do creative writing as a minor. My favorite color is purple! (I'm pretty sure a lot of you guys already knew that) and I hate cheese >><<

2. What types of books do you write?

I enjoy writing all types of books, beside horror. I think romance and supernatural would be my favorite genres to write.

3. How many books have you written?

I have completed a total of nine stories (some are not online) and I probably have started over a total of twenty, but never got to finish most of them.

4. What movies and/or books are you looking forward to this year?

I honestly don't pay attention to releases dates, but I'm looking forward to John Green's book 'The Faults in Our Stars' turn into a movie. I'm not sure when that comes out though...

5. What types of books do you enjoy reading?

Supernatural and fantasy kinds, or any kind of romance novel. I'm a sucker for those!

6. If you were stranded on a desert island what three things would you want with you?

My laptop, food, and water.

7. Are you considering a sequel?

Already considered it :) I'd already started and finish the sequel which is called 'Wattpad Infatuation?'

8. What inspired you to become a writer?

I guess art did. Without art, I would have never wanted to write a story behind a character I made up, and I would have never experience the happiness I get when I'm writing. It's like an escape from real life, just like when I'm drawing.

Excerpt

Dear... No, wait!
Starting this thing off with Dear, isn't going to cut it. Dear is just way too common and simple, I need something more creative...something like...um- Oh wait! I know, what about lotus flower? Okay I know that's a little bit girly since this letter's for you; a guy, but I used to call you lotus flower so why not?...right?

Okay, let's start over.

Lotus Flower,

You're probably wondering why I'm even writing this letter in the first place. That or you think I'm crazy. Any who, this letter is more for me, rather than for you. I needed to finally sit down and write this out, and I thought this would be the perfect way to do that. Even though I’ll probably never show this to you.

Well, I guess I should probably start from the beginning. Remember the first time I met you? That day feels like it was just yesterday. I was on the computer, bored out of my mind (as usual), so I decided to go on Facebook (I know I’m addicted, but you used to be, too!). I was minding my own business, browsing through my news feed, when I saw your profile. All of my friends seemed to be adding you, so I decided to check out your profile. I’m not a stalker - promise!

What shocked me the most was your profile picture. I wasn't really paying attention to it since it is just a small square box next to someone’s name. Once I noticed it, though, let’s just say I was a little bit blown away.

Your blonde golden locks, those amazing deep brown eyes, and that smile, oh my god that angelic-smile!

After staring at your picture for about twenty minutes straight (sadly, I’m not kidding), I made up my mind that I wanted-more like needed-to be your friend. So I clicked on the ‘Add Friend’ button and waited for you to accept my request.

Julie has always been the shy type. Her world changes when she finds wattpad, a very popular ebook community. She becomes addicted to it and even starts posting her own stories. But are friends, fans and votes all she will get from this site? Or is it possible to find love as well?

Interview

1. Please tell the readers a bit about yourself.

My name is Ariana but everyone calls me Arix. I'm a passionate reader and writer.

2. What types of books do you write?

Mostly romance books but I've written stories in a variety of genres: horror, vampire, thriller, teen-fiction and humor.

3. How many books have you written?

Almost 20 but I've only posted 13 or so on Wattpad.

4. What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?

I cannot wait to watch Shadow hunters: City of Bones. I've been a fan of the books since they came out.

5. What type of books do you enjoy reading?

That's a tough one. I don't have a specific type. If the book gets my attention, I will read it, no matter what the genre is.

6. If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?

1. A knife
2. A rope
3. Water.

7. Are you considering a sequel?

Yes, I'm actually writing. I posted the first chapter already.

8. What inspired you to become a writer?

I wrote my first story when I was 9. It was sort of a diary. As I read it, I realized it was boring so I added some monsters and characters to spice it out and voila, I had my first story.

Camilla

Camilla Waters has fought knights, tricked trolls, and saved dragons, well in her head at least, but she never once thought she would be doing it in reality. All Camilla knows is a dull suburban life with her parents she barely sees and her neighbor, ok, somewhat best friend Josh. Cam is just your run-of-the-mill 10-year-old with an unhealthy thirst for adventure.

But all that changes when the crack in her living room wall starts to expand and out pops a strange old elf with a habit of cursing after every word she says. Without much regard for her safety, Cam jumps into a magical world she hoped to see in her dreams. There she must face not only her fears, but also her past as a great destiny unfolds before her…of course, that is if she can survive the Darkness that is brewing underneath.

Interview

1. Please tell the readers a bit about yourself.

Well, I am a college student with no idea of where I'm going in life. I suppose that's normal, but it is quite aggravating. I do know however that I enjoy writing, painting, traveling, and dreaming.

2.What types of books do you write?

I don’t think I have one particular type. I enjoy writing all genres – besides maybe romance. As of now, I’ve been going by the statement “write what you know”, which in my case is Fantasy. I love daydreaming, and with fantasy, I can just recreate my dreams for others to witness as well.

3. How many books have you written?

I have not finished a single one – yet. I’ve been an amateur writer for 10+ years, and I have countless stories under my fingertips. I even got to 80 pages of a novel before scraping it. But my current work “Camilla” is hands down my favorite so far, and I promise I am going to finish it. In fact, I have one more chapter to write of my first draft before I begin my tedious, yet needed revisions.

4.     What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?

Definitely the next installment of “The Hobbit”; I am completely in love with the book, and I enjoyed the first movie despite its addition of subplots.

5.     What type of books do you enjoy reading?

When I was younger, I loved fantasy and adventure tales that took me to far off lands, but now I’m a satire fan. Of course, when it’s satire mixed with a bit of fantasy or science fiction, that’s the best.

6.     If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?

 1. A functioning toilet
 2. A sketchbook
 3. Somebody who can actually survive in the wild because I wouldn’t last a week – not even ashamed of it, it's just the truth.

7.     Are you considering a sequel?

Let’s just say, “Camilla” is the first in a series of six. Yes, that’s right, six! I’m crazy enough to plan that far ahead. And more importantly, I’m excited to write each and every one of them.

8.     What inspired you to become a writer?

When I was very little, I lived in my head. I would make up all these intricate stories and act them out. I have been to far off planets and back in time and on the wildest of adventures, and I loved it all. It was almost a natural transition to writing. I wanted to share my stories, my adventures with others so that I could relive my dreams and hopefully bring them to life.

Excerpt

“Can I help you find anything,” said a croaky voice from above. A man on a ladder was arranging books. His liver spotted fingers slid down the spines as he whispered the titles to himself. “Ah yes, Exceptional Herbs and their Deceptional Cousins,” he whispered as he drew the book out. His straggly gray hair lay matted on the hood of his long red robes; the elf swore he would trip on them in a matter of seconds.

The old man stepped down the ladder and placed one of the books from the teetering stack in his arms on the front desk. He then peered down at the child over his round glasses and smiled broadly exposing his yellowing, slightly crooked teeth.

“No,” the child said almost too quickly. It looked anxiously to the window. “Unless you have something that can make us invisible,” the child muttered under its breath. The old man smiled again and then turned his head in the direction of the elf.

“You!” He whispered, and the remaining books in his hands dropped to the floor. His smile had vanished.

“Me?” The elf said pointing at himself.

“I thought-“ the man began, “what are you doing here?” he asked.

“I’m sorry, I think you have me confused with someone else,” the elf said. He had no idea who this man was, let alone how he knew him.

The old man turned his head back and forth between the elf and the child. He raised his furry eyebrows so high that the elf thought they might merge into his hairline. The commotion outside was growing louder, but the elf could still hear Raas’ deep roar over the crowd.

“Do you have a back way out of here?” The child asked, peering through the large shelves that made up most of the back of the store.

The old man nodded as he looked through the curtain out the window. “We haven’t much time,” he said closing the curtain back. The old man turned to the child this time. He bent over so that his face was in line with Cam’s, “did you or did you not come here through a crack?” he asked. His clouded brown eyes looked the child up and down from over his glasses.

Cam stood silent for a moment. She looked to the old elf, but he had no clue what to say or do, he just writhed his hands. “Yes,” she finally whispered with her eyes still on the elf.

“Thought as much,” the old man said getting up. He looked between the child and the elf once more, “next time someone asks you that, you better say ‘no’, understand?” He looked very seriously down at Cam, the little girl nodded her head.

“Good,” the old man said retrieving his books and placing them on the closest table. “There is a back way, left at the tall stack of books, behind the old rune rug, see that it is unlocked,” he said to Cam. The child nodded and zoomed from where she stood through the shelves and was soon gone.

The old man sighed and rubbed his glasses with the sleeve of his long robe. “I hoped to never see you again Firi,” the old man said, walking towards the elf once more. “But it seems fate has brought us together once more,” he paused, “and who am I to question such a witty power?”
