Book Description:
Amelie has always been different.

Most high school students find life challenging, but 17-year old Amelie has a lot more to contend with than typical teenage angst. Ever since she turned 11, others have been irresistibly drawn to her—with tragic consequences. Her only escape is at night when she flies to different times and places through her “dreams”. Her life begins to change when, on one of her flights, she meets Clovis, an alluring and mysterious young man who hides a secret.

As Amelie finds herself increasingly drawn to him, she learns his story, how it intertwines with her own and finally discovers how to live her life in the real world. Until her own secrets are revealed to the wrong people and that world turns upside down.

Bright Midnights is the second in the Limerent Series and continues in the thought-provoking and beautiful style of the first as it considers different dimensions, different ways of looking at the world, and the transcendental power of love.

AUTHOR Q&A

1. What inspired you to want to become a writer?

I’ve always written.  When I was 8, I wrote a story about a rebellious red hot who had to make her way across the rock candy mountains and across the swamps of fudge to save her people.  It was basically Lord of the Rings meets Willy Wonka.   When I was a teen I switched from short stories to songs.  Later, I wrote scientific papers, and legal papers.  After I had children I began to do writing about travel with kids.   But throughout all this I continued to craft stories in my head.  In 2017, while living in London, I decided to finally put some of the characters from in my head to paper.  In truth, everything I do is an attempt to entertain my brain and avoid the trouble it gets me into when I’m bored.

2. Tell us about your most rewarding experience since being published.

The most rewarding thing is just having people read the book, and getting feedback from people who enjoyed it.  My definition of success would be to eventually have fan fiction.

3. If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?

Probably “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley because she had an extraordinary life and created a character that has lived on for centuries after her death. All the remakes of her story are the ultimate fan fiction.

4. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?

Shapeshifting. I’d choose this one both because it allows you all the powers of whatever you shift into, thus giving you an almost limitless array of abilities but also because I believe shapeshifting would give you the ability to escape health issues.

5. Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book?

Because this book is unique and challenges a lot of common ideas about attraction in its many forms, both creative and destructive.

6. Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?

I have written eight books in this universe.  I have published two.  The third, Fanning Fireflies, will be published in April.   The remaining novels have been written but are in various stages of editing.   Because this universe is vast and complex, I could write in it for many years to come.

7. Do you write as you go or do you have the book planned before you start the first draft?

I start with characters and an outline of the major points in the book.  I like to think of them as “train stations”.    Then, when I am writing, I know what points I need to reach but I can be creative about the route that I take.

8. What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?

The books I read; I tend to just stumble upon.  For movies, I’m interested in Nosferatu and Beetlejuice 2.   To be honest, I’m a bit shocked by how many movies are just remains or extensions of movies that have come before.  It feels like there is a lack of bravery on the part of the movie industry to take on something new.  For every “Poor Things” you will have 30 live action remakes of cartoons.  But there has been a lot going on in streaming and internet series.   I saw “Hasbyn Hotel” this year and am now desperately waiting for the second season in 2025.

9. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

For someone who has spent by life moving around, this is such a hard question.  While I currently live in Paris, I think the cities that I feel most comfortable in are London, DC, and Orlando, all for different reasons.  London is very international and if you will never be bored unless you want to be.  DC is also international and there is a buzz of energy in the place.  Plus, as a recovering lawyer myself, I appreciate that DC is a refuge for lawyers.   Orlando is the Mecca of Disney, and the escapism is real and tangible there.

10. Can you see yourself in any of your characters?

I see myself in all of my characters, even the villains.  They came out of me, so I think that’s inescapable to some extent.”

About the Author
Lexy Delorme is a multidisciplinary writer and creative who lives in Paris with her husband and two sons. She has worked as a travel writer and is the author of The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland Hong Kong and An Expat Mom's Unofficial Guide to Disneyland ParisAs a former rock musician, science graduate, recovering attorney, constant traveller and expat writer, Lexy's diverse background provides a rich tapestry that she weaves into her writing and creative projects.

Lexy's journey is nothing short of extraordinary. From her roots as a navy "brat" growing up in various states across the U.S. to her adventures living in three countries, nine U.S. states, and 21 cities worldwide, Lexy's life reads like a thrilling novel. Despite this constant change, her love for writing has remained unwavering and constant. Her latest literary endeavour draws inspiration from her eclectic past, allowing her to craft unique and immersive worlds in her books, The Limerent Series (https://bit.ly/3Tie5Lu). Lexy’s books are written for (YA) young adult and adult fantasy readers to enjoy; her first book (February 2023) was written for adults: Caio.  The second book in The Limerent Series, Bright Midnights was released in October 2023 and is being read by YA and adult readers alike. This book series is unique as both titles, Caio and Bright Midnights can be read separately as two different standalone entry points into the world of this exciting book series. The Limerent Series is a fictional fantasy series that has been beautifully written and explores different realities and perspectives.

“One thing that’s probably different is that I had a bit of a tumbleweed childhood. I think differently from someone who was more stationary in life and had more stability growing up. This gives me a kind of a natural understanding of the outsider’s perspective.  Also, my family was weird. I know everyone’s family has weird components but mine was weird in an Adam’s family-esque sort of way.”

Lexy’s unique, “tumbleweed childhood” as she says, has given her a distinct perspective of the world and life, and has pushed her to focus on what she hopes to leave behind as a legacy, not only as a writer and creative but as a mother. Lexy views her Limerent Series and projects around this work her way of building a familial legacy for her to leave behind and pass on to future generations

“My husband, along with my youngest son, created our own publishing company and have been learning about marketing, PR, and sales strategies.  My youngest is also very much into media and film and, so he has created, directed, and is producing a teaser trailer for this book.”

Lexy has passed her passion for writing and the arts to her family, notably, her sons who have been extremely involved in the creation of The Limerent Series. With support and encouragement from both Lexy and her husband, Lexy’s sons have contributed their ideas, opinions, and insights into their mother’s work. Lexy sees this literary work as an important “family project” as each member of the family has contributed in some essential way to help publish this book series.

Lexy explains, “The fact is that this book and the series have been part of a family project. I wrote the stories. All the members of my family have read my books for readability and interest.  My youngest son has done developmental editing… for the entire series of seven books. He started doing this when he was 12. My oldest son has been involved in the more conceptual side of it, like themes, imagery, and character development. He has also turned out to be the master of writing blurbs.”
