MY REVIEW

Twins Angus and Cat, along with Angus's best friend, Del, find themselves in a bit of a bother while seeking adventure when school bully, Bradley, challenges them to take a ride down the river in a rusty canoe. The gang soon realise their mistake when their canoe capsizes and they are left stranded with a bully and having to evade capture by the stranger who lives in the isolated house on the hill.

For the most part, this book was an enjoyable read. I liked the characters. I thought the author gave an authentic portrayal of preadolescent kids full of adrenaline and an excitement for life. I didn't like the ending. It was somewhat underwhelming in the sense that the suspense that was built up throughout the story wasn't afforded a climactic ending, particularly with the inclusion of the second resident of the house on the hill, the identity of whom further undermined the threat of danger. The story certainly demonstrated how wild a child's imagination can be, but I thought the plot could have turned out in a way to better complement the imagination of the protagonists.

Overall, it was still an enjoyable and quick read.
