Blog Tour Spotlight - Chemo on the Rocks: My Great Alaskan Misadventures by Rebecca L. Durkin

Chemo on the Rocks: My Great Alaskan Misadventure
Author: Rebecca L. Durkin
Publisher: Christine F. Anderson Publishing & Media
Pages: 178
Genre: Memoir
Format: Hardcover/Paperback/Kindle/Nook

Book Description:
Chemo on the Rocks is a shoreside seat on Rebecca (Becky) Durkin’s great Alaskan misadventure. It highlights the hilarity and heartache of a young girl who finds herself marooned in Ketchikan—fondly known as "The Rock"—where she remains on her self-imposed Alaskatraz for almost thirty years.

Chemo on the Rocks is witty, inspirational, satirical, and sometimes terrifying. It is a mix of pain and laughter as Becky walks the IV gauntlet, trailing behind the unfettered back end peeking through the drab hospital gown of the man shuffling before her.  Chemo on the Rocks is a hard-fought battle in the fallopian trenches where Becky wages war on ovarian cancer—the ultimate wedding crasher—as it invites an entire medical team into her honeymoon suite.  She slays the cancer dragon and has two children in defiance of the beast, but just when it seems life has returned to normalcy, she prematurely crashes onto Mount Hysteria and wanders aimlessly through the Hormone War Zone in the Land of the Ovary Snatchers.

Everything about having chemo on the rock was made more difficult by Becky’s fears of boating and flying—the only escape from the island—which became more terrifying with each trip to Seattle for surgery or testing. Chemo on the Rocks showcases the many parallels between sea adventures and cancer adventures, such as doldrums while awaiting diagnosis, the skull and cross bones of chemo, the bitter end of a failed marriage, tying the knot of another, listing dangerously, and perhaps a return to navigable waters.

Book Blitz & Giveaway - My Buddhist Christmas by Jeremy Phillips

My Buddhist Christmas
Release Date: 9/8/15

Summary from Goodreads:
It’s not surprising that sixteen year old Chris Jones has no idea where he fits in…

After all, he’s a Buddhist kid in America—during the Christmas season. Add in the fact he plays guitar in a punk rock band called The Dharma Bhumz, and his life is one giant paradox. Caught between the principles of his religion and the influence of his hard-partying bandmates, Chris is in a constant struggle for balance.

An upcoming talent show is his chance to shine—or fail spectacularly…

It’s already hard enough preparing for the show, since his friends are more interested in getting high than practicing. And now Chris has to worry about impressing pretty Mary Simpson. To make matters even worse, Mary’s parents are fundamentalist Christians, a few steps above his family on the social ladder, and they firmly believe Chris isn’t good enough for their precious daughter.

Conflicted about his friends, lying to his family, and still mourning a devastating loss, Chris wonders if being an American Buddhist guitar wizard wanna-be is worth it.

Or does any of it even matter anymore?

Book Blitz & Giveaway - One Great Year by Tamara Veitch and Rene DeFazio

Welcome to the Book Blitz for One Great Year by Tamara Veitch and Rene DeFazio! One Great Year is a metaphysical fantasy that is an epic, thought-provoking tale of reincarnation, love, and the struggle of good against evil.

One Great Love, One Great Adventure, One Great Year

By Tamara Veitch DeFazio and Rene DeFazio

Magic happens. Sometimes as writers we are amazed where the story takes us and the lessons we learn along the way. As we researched for our novel we came across an ancient mystery that evoked such wonder in us that we asked ourselves “why isn’t the whole world talking about this?”

We were fascinated by what is known as The Great Year Cycle; a naturally occurring phenomenon written about in thirty-oneancient cultures from China to Mexico. Plato called it the Great Year, the Mayan’s called it the Grand Cycle and in India it has been known as the Yugas for more than five thousand years.

It is common knowledge that the spin of the Earth gives us night and day and the rotation of the earth around the Sun gives us the four seasons, but there is more! There is a ‘wobble’ in the rotation that takes approximately 26, 000 years, composing one Great Year. Like the seasons in a year, the Great Year is divided in to four phases: the Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. These periods are characterized by a rise and fall in human consciousness. In the Golden Age human consciousness experiences full enlightenment and then declines through the ages losing consciousness and causing destruction, war and disconnect.

We weave these secrets through the extraordinary lifetimes of our characters and consider: what if reincarnation is real? Marcus has past life memory and his soul mate Theron does not. As the Dark Age climaxes our hero leads the way in ensuring the ascension toward the Golden Age but he is not alone. Hisarch enemy Helghul and the other Adversaries have devastating plans for the world and are determined to expand the darkness, fear and doubt indefinitely. One Great Year makes a quantum leap, weaving ancient wisdom, modern discoveries and an alternative world history together creating a dynamic novel series.

One Great Year is an award winning fantasy novel that has been optioned for Hollywood development. The second book in The Great Year Series is due for release in early 2016. We want to thank all of our readers for their amazing posts, emails, reviews and support. We cannot wait to share Book II in The Great Year Series. If you haven’t read One Great Year yet, don’t wait! People keep telling us “You will read it when you are ready.” Are you ready?

Blog Tour Promo - The Sparrow Sisters by Ellen Herrick

The Sparrow Sisters
Author:
Ellen Herrick
Publisher: William Morrow
Pages: 384
Genre: Magical Realism/Fantasy
Format: Kindle/Paperback

Book Description:
With echoes of the alchemy of Practical Magic, the lushness of Saving CeeCee Honeycutt, and the darkly joyful wickedness of the Witches of East End, Ellen Herrick’s debut novel spins an enchanting love story about a place where magic whispers just beneath the surface and almost anything is possible, if you aren’t afraid to listen.

The Sparrow Sisters are as tightly woven into the seaside New England town of Granite Point as the wild sweet peas that climb the stone walls along the harbor. Sorrel, Nettie and Patience are as colorful as the beach plums on the dunes and as mysterious as the fog that rolls into town at dusk.

Patience is the town healer and when a new doctor settles into Granite Point he brings with him a mystery so compelling that Patience is drawn to love him, even as she struggles to mend him. But when Patience Sparrow’s herbs and tinctures are believed to be implicated in a local tragedy, Granite Point is consumed by a long-buried fear—and its three hundred year old history resurfaces as a modern day witch-hunt threatens. The plants and flowers, fruit trees and high hedges begin to wither and die, and the entire town begins to fail; fishermen return to the harbor empty-handed, and blight descends on the old elms that line the lanes.

It seems as if Patience and her town are lost until the women of Granite Point band together to save the Sparrow. As they gather, drawing strength from each other, will they be able to turn the tide and return life to Granite Point?

The Sparrow Sisters is a beautiful, haunting, and thoroughly mesmerizing novel that will capture your imagination.

Promo Blitz & Giveaway - Falling on the Bright Side by Michael Gray

Falling on the Bright Side
Author: Michael Gray
Genre: General Fiction / Literary
Date Published: November 2014

Book Description:
Larry works in an Albuquerque nursing home and like many of its residents he is not thrilled to be at this last-stop warehouse for old folks.  Trained as a counselor, he hardly notices the human spirit flowing around him until he meets Bill Foster.  Bill, a successful clinical psychologist, is lying comatose after a left hemisphere stroke, as Philip Cook, one of his oldest patients, leans over the hospital bed listening intently to his inarticulate attempts to speak.

Through Philip’s uncanny understanding of Bill’s incoherent mutterings, an unlikely collaboration begins, linking the unconfident Larry with the experienced but speech-damaged Dr. Bill.  That summer, with Larry’s wife and son out of town, Bill’s counseling practice helps renew Larry confidence as a therapist and--at the nursing home—he starts to see residents, families, and fellow staff as fellow human beings.

But old traumas (the drowning death of his brother and his misplaced blame of his father) run deep: each step seems to open the door for further falls from grace.

This is a novel about disability and the human depth that is left behind after the loss of physical and cognitive faculties.  It is also a book about the power of forgiveness.
