About the Author
Teresa J. Braswell lives in a small rural community in Southern Illinois that is part of the Shawnee National Forest. When she is not working as a full time Police Telecommunicator at nearby Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children in their little home in the woods. With two horses, two dogs, and a guinea pig, there is never a dull moment around the Braswell house.

Teresa’s real passion, however, is writing. She discovered the joy of writing back in her high school days. The first children’s book she ever wrote was for a Sophomore English class and was titled Herley Smerley P.I. Since then, she has created poems and short stories for her co-workers, friends and family. She especially enjoys writing for her children.

The inspiration for Dax Dugan and the Graveyard Gang came one foggy fall evening when Teresa drove past an old country cemetery not far from her home. Although she had driven down that same road dozens of times before, something about the cemetery seemed particularly creepy that night. She immediately thought it would be the perfect setting for a children’s book.

Book Blast & Giveaway - The Tesla Gate by John D. Mimms

Tesla Gate
The Tesla Gate
by John D. Mimms

Book Summary:
When a cosmic storm enters Earth’s atmosphere, scientists are baffled by its composition and origins, but not nearly as much as they are by the storm’s side effect – anyone who has died and chosen not to cross over is suddenly stranded here, visible, and can interact with the living.

With the world thrown into chaos, Thomas Pendleton is eager to make up for many broken promises to his six-year-old son, Seth. Soon after the storm, they set out on a road trip to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC, completely unaware of the social and political maelstrom they’re heading into that will change their lives forever.

Excerpt from The Tesla Gate

(The prologue)

The day the storm hit, the world was changed forever.

Its severity would not be measured in property damage or loss of life, although the latter could be argued. This storm’s impact turned man’s beliefs completely upside down; the social upheaval would be worse than the aftermath of any storm in history.

Though this storm did not bring hurricane force winds, driving rain, cyclones or even floods, its effects would be far more subtle … but the impact every bit as palpable. This storm had unique origins and, unlike most weather events, it was not relegated to one geographic area. Indeed it covered the entire planet; no one was left unaffected.

Living or dead.

Bookvie: August: Osage County - out January 10, 2014 (USA)

Who's in it:
Meryl Streep, Dermot Mulroney, Julia Roberts

What's it all about (book blurb from Goodreads):
“A tremendous achievement in American playwriting: a tragicomic populist portrait of a tough land and a tougher people.”—Time Out New York

“Tracy Letts’ August: Osage County is what O’Neill would be writing in 2007. Letts has recaptured the nobility of American drama’s mid-century heyday while still creating something entirely original.”—New York magazine

One of the most bracing and critically acclaimed plays in recent Broadway history, August: Osage County is a portrait of the dysfunctional American family at its finest—and absolute worst. When the patriarch of the Weston clan disappears one hot summer night, the family reunites at the Oklahoma homestead, where long-held secrets are unflinchingly and uproariously revealed. The three-act, three-and-a-half-hour mammoth of a play combines epic tragedy with black comedy, dramatizing three generations of unfulfilled dreams and leaving not one of its thirteen characters unscathed. After its sold-out Chicago premiere, the play has electrified audiences in New York since its opening in November 2007.

Tracy Letts is the author of Killer Joe, Bug, and Man from Nebraska, which was a finalist for the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. His plays have been performed throughout the country and internationally. A performer as well as a playwright, Letts is a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, where August: Osage County premiered.

Blog Tour Guest Post - Guardians Inc.: The Cypher by Julian Rosado-Machain

Guardians Inc.: The Cypher
by Julian Rosado-Machain
Publisher: Julian Rosado-Machain
Pages: 239
Genre: YA Fantasy Adventure
Format: Paperback, Kindle

Book Description:
GUARDIANS INC.: THE CYPHER is two stories in one. A glimpse into a multinational company that is in reality the oldest of secret societies, one that spans close to seven thousand years of existence, weaving in and out of history, guiding and protecting humanity from creatures and forces that most of us believe are only mythology and fairy tales.

The other is the story of Thomas Byrne, a young man thrust into secrets he shouldn’t be aware of and dangers he shouldn’t face but, that he ultimately will, for he is a Cypher. The only one who can steer humanity’s future.

The ultimate conspiracy theory is that Magic is real. Kept in check by technology but, every five hundred years the balance can shift and, if it does, technology will fail and those creatures we’ve driven into myth will come back with a vengeance.

To protect the present, Guardians Incorporated needs to know the future, and to unlock the future they need a Cypher.

This is the first book of the Guardians Inc Series.

GUEST POST

“Stop trying to tell me what it is about and let me read it….You sound like a crazy person.”

That’s what my friend Francisco Trueba said when I explained to him what Guardians Inc. was all about. He was right.  After sending him the book, I replayed in my mind the things I told him (and a couple of dozen more people) about the book and realized that it was a difficult book to explain.
I sat down and actually recorded an explanation to hear how I sounded, I left it to simmer for a couple of days and then replayed it. (Listening with headphones, just in case my wife was around and I sounded crazier than usual in the recording.)

Mythology mixed with sci-fi mixed with history mixed with fantasy and conspiracy theories…all in a contemporary setting…Magic, talking animals, a city under central park, a robot that’s in reality…. A mansion that has doors to everywhere in the world, and a library with all the tomes ever written… And so on and so forth….

Suddenly all those times my friends looked at me with a mix of disbelief and pity made sense!
I did sound like a crazy person.

It was better to just give it out for people to read it, so that’s what I did.

Francisco was the first one to read it and he was the one that helped me put it into print, because it made sense once read. So much sense that it was a good idea to just give it for free.

So, the Cypher has been in Perma-Free Status for about a year and a half now and has been downloaded a little over 150,000 times and only one review, (of the third book which is by design convoluted) has been printed about how complicated it is.

It turns out that it’s not so crazy when its being read, and that is the best thing I could’ve been told because now I don’t sound like a crazy person…

Although I probably can count as one.

GUEST POST

Cabin Goddess

Writing zombies for young adults, the challenges it presents.

I tried to make The Zombie Upstairs suspenseful but not gory.  My zombie series is not a typical YA where anything goes.  I tried to capture a 14- to 16-year-old market that is caught between Middle Grade and YA.  My zombies are also not the typical Hollywood zombies.  They are based off the zombies created from voodoo and not the decomposing, reanimated corpses typically portrayed.

Bookie Monster

The importance of social media in promoting your book.

Unless you’re a well-known author who has long list of successful books or you have access to promote your book in front of a million viewers on TV, readers won’t be seeking out your books.  Social media is a great way to get your book in front of them.  Social media makes it easier to target a large number of readers that have a specific interest in your type of book in a short period of time.

Mythical Books

The Zombies of our days (how to find new stories with and about zombies).

The zombies in my books aren’t reanimated corpses, but the type created by sorcerers of voodoo.  The plot is centered on a mystery that the main character has to solve—the zombies are basically a road block, but one she can’t go around.  She has to plow forward, through them.

About the Author
After working an assortment of jobs, which include a computer programmer, marketing director, and substitute teacher, T.W. Kirchner decided to concentrate on her second loves, writing and art. Her first loves are her husband, two children, and furry menagerie known as the Kirchner Zoo. Pirates Off the Deep End and Pirates Off the Wall are my first published novels. The Troubled Souls of Goldie Rich: The Zombie Next Door and The Troubled Souls of Goldie Rich: The Zombie Upstairs are now available. A sequel to Pirates will be out around summer 2014
