Author Interview

1. Tell us a little about yourself. What you do when you’re not writing? What are your aspirations for the future?
I consider myself a citizen of the world. I´ve been several years now in USA but I have traveled to many places. Over the past 16 years, I have lived in 14 different addresses across 3 different continents. I have traveled to 30 countries and I speak 4 languages.

2. When and why did you start writing?
I have been writing as long as I can remember, but always small things for myself. Only like two years back I decided to start attacking larger projects, even a standard length novel.

3. Have any particular novels or writers influenced your writing?
This one cannot be very original. You see, I write fantasy. In this genre, there is Tolkien and then everybody else. He, not only founded a genre, but also wrote one of the best (let’s say) three books of the XX century. The classic D&D structure is also all over my work. In terms of my other interests, they vary widely. One of my favorite authors is Asimov.

4. Give us some backstory behind The Orb of Wrath. Where and when did you write it?
It all started about 15 years ago. I spent a year to write a large and detailed fantasy world. I defined more than 700 cities for example. Then about a year ago I was flipping through it and I decided to try to get some characters alive in that environment to be able to share it.

5. What was your favourite part of writing The Orb of Wrath?
The characters. As you think about them and writhe about them, there is a point where you feel they become alive.

6. What does your writing schedule look like?
I am finalizing the second book of the saga: The White Lady. It will be out before xmas.

7. Which fictional character would you like to take to dinner and why?
Somebody smart like Ender Wiggin who could also talk about the wonders of the future.

8. Besides your lead, do you have a favourite character in the story?I really like all the five main characters. They all have their story, their background. I couldn’t easily pick up one among them. Maybe Thost, the former Count of Borydos, is a bit more close to my heart these days.

9. What is one of the most surprising things you've learned as a writer?
I was surprised to understand how powerful is Facebook. I had not used it very actively before. When I loaded a video and I realized one hour later more than 500 people had already seen it, I was shocked. This was before publishing for the first time.

10. Any advice for aspiring authors?
This self-publishing thing is a new paradigm; a miracle, even. Any aspiring writer today can (for sure) become a published writer. If you are passionate about writing, just go for it. But you need to know that writing a great book is only half of the work; marketing it is a full time job by itself. So, spend some time beforehand on how you will tackle that piece of the challenge.
