Blog Tour Interview & Giveaway - Lake of Sins by L.S. O'Dea

http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/vbt-lake-of-sins-by-ls-odea.html

Lake of Sins
Author: L.S. O'Dea
Genre: YA, paranormal, dystopian, sci-fi/fantasy

Book Description:
In a world where class distinction means the difference between imprisonment and freedom and even life and death, being chosen to stay in the encampment and breed is the only way to guarantee survival for a teenage Producer.

Every year after harvest, the finest examples of teenage Producers are assigned mates; the rest are loaded onto carts and hauled away, never to be seen or heard from again. Trinity, a sixteen-year-old Producer, knows that she has no chance of being chosen to stay. She isn’t even full-blooded Producer. Her father is a House Servant and she’s spent her entire life hiding her differences, especially her claws and fangs.

She has one week to sneak into the forest and discover what happens to those who are taken. Her plan is simple, but she doesn’t count on being hunted and captured by predators long believed to be extinct. Can she elude her captors to uncover the fate of her kind and return to camp before her escape is discovered?

The first book of the series is on sale for $0.99 until the end of the tour.

Author Interview

Any weird things you do when you’re alone?
I talk to my animals and pretend that they talk back.  Sometimes, I even chastise them (in a playful tone so it doesn’t bother them) for having attitude.  I do this when other people are around too.  Over the years, I have learned to be brutally honest with myself so there really isn’t anything that I do alone that I wouldn’t do in front of someone.

What is your favorite quote and why?
There are so many quotes that I like it is hard to pick just one.

This is one of my favorites because I truly believe that each person is responsible for his/her fate and life.  It doesn’t matter where you start or what your parents did or did not do for you.  All that matters is what you learn and how you apply that.

You are who you are and where you are because of what you have put into your mind.

Earl Nightinggale

I also like:
The Pessimist complains about the wind;
The optimist expects it to change;
The Realist adjusts the sails.
William A Ward

I’m a realist.  I live among many optimists.  It can be quite annoying.

Who is your favorite author and why?
I really don’t read “authors”.  I read books.  I may pick up a book by an author who I’ve read before but I don’t search out authors.  I went through a stage of reading all works by a particular author (Stephen King, Frank Herbert, Carl Hiaasen, etc) and found that after a while the books started to become predictable.  So now, I look for an interesting book not the author.

On a side note, if I pick up a book and the story is horrible, I will probably not give that author another chance.

What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing?
The story.  The story has to be intriguing and fast.  The writer should present the facts in an interesting fashion.  Unfortunately, the grammar has to be spot-on too.  I don’t mind a few typos here or there but I’ll put a book down if it has too many grammatical errors.

Where did you get the idea for  this book?
I don’t really recall.  It was rattling around in my head for years before I sat down and let it out.  I do remember that it didn’t start out as a sci-fi/fantasy novel.  It started with regular humans but somewhere along the way, they morphed into something else.

About the Author
L. S. O'Dea grew up the youngest of seven. She always wanted to do what her older siblings were doing, especially reading stories.

Ill at a young age, she immersed herself in books. Her life changed when she read a short story written by her older brother and realized that normal (somewhat anyway, since her brother was a bit weird in her opinion) people created these amazing stories. From that day forward, she wanted to write.

However, as with all good stories, obstacles rose in her path (mostly self-created obstacles) and it took her many years to put finger to keyboard and type her first book.

    1. Thanks, MomJane. If you've read both of the Lake of Sins series, I have another book (release day 10/30) about how Christian (the River Man) became a River Man.

  2. Hi Ree Dee,

I noticed that you posted a comment on one of the other blog stops but I am not able to reply (they must have shut down the comments). Anyway, you said that you wished there was a magnifying function on the illustrations. Have you tried taking a look at them on my website? lsodea.com. They might show up bigger there.

Glad that you like them though. I have the illustrator working on Gaar now, but he was just accepted into an architecture program so he is really busy right now. He should have it to me this month or next. Then we will move on to Trinity and Mirra.

    1. Thanks Trix. I hope you don't mean "informative" as in "boy, she's weird". :) I know talking to my critters is strange but I don't really think that they give me attitude (except when they do of course :)

    1. Hi Mai,
I'm not really sure. I know that I have a little Scarlet O'Hara in me (I can be a real bitch sometimes) but I'm not sure what others. I would like to be more like Twilly Spree from "Sick Puppy". I'd love to run around righting wrongs done to animals and nature.
