Author Interview

1. What inspired you to want to become a writer?
As a kid I loved to escape reality and enjoy other worlds and places that my imagination could make bigger than life. I wanted to build those worlds and characters and share them with other hungry fans.

2. Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Just knowing that I can make people laugh and that my writing will lighten somebody's mood makes me smile. Knowing that somewhere out there some crazy fan gets it, I mean really gets it and laughed till it hurt, that makes my day!

3. If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?
Game of thrones first edition of course! Not only am I a fan, but a collector of fantasy novels as well. I've been collecting since I was about 12.

4. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Teleportation. Sometimes you just don't have time to go see all the things you want to see in a day.

5. Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
It’s Funny… yes, with a capital F.

6. Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Six books are finished with a lot more ideas and stories to be put to paper. We have completed the “Vellian Heroes” books which Funny Fruit belongs to, and then Grant went on to write the “Vellian Mysteries” series, with the same characters –twenty years after Funny Fruit (Garrett is all grown up!) Grant also has an awesome epic Fantasy titled “Shadow of the Makarios.” Oh… and he’s working on the graphic novel for book one of the Vellian Mysteries. Issue one is available now.

7. Do you write as you go or do you have the book planned before you start the first draft?
Twenty years ago when we started writing it was more unorganized. If I chuckled while thinking about it, it was as good a place as any to start. Now there are plot lines, notebooks with outlines, and a lot of collaboration before the first draft is started in earnest.

8. What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
Movies: Mad Max. Book: Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicle Book 3.

9. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
Canada, it’s home, and one of the world's last wild frontiers. I like outdoor life and adventure. Canada has that and then some.

10. Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
All of my characters have a small piece of me or a friend or a family member. I have a lot of quirky relatives and they show up in the books.
