Blog Tour Interview & Giveaway - The Christmas Dragon / Strings by Ruthanne Reid

The Christmas Dragon
Author: Ruthanne Reid
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Book Description:
All Katie Lin wants is to get away from her family: from the magic, from the mayhem, and from the never-ending war.

Unfortunately, someone has other ideas, and sends her a box. A box that jumps.

The tiny fire hazard inside may just force her back to Wales - and right into the path of a dragon war, the Crow King, and at least one reluctant elf prince. Sometimes, running away just doesn't work as planned.

Strings
Author: Ruthanne Reid
Genre: Contemporary Fantasy

Book Description:
Need help? You probably shouldn't ask Grey.

A runaway Unseelie prince, Grey feeds on love -  a commodity he conjures via music and magic in late-night Manhattan. It's a sweet gig, if lonely, and Grey is almost sure the dire warnings he was given about New York in December won't come true.

Then a monster from his childhood attacks in the middle of the night, and everything changes.

He survived, but he's marked, and more monsters are coming for him and everyone who survived. Grey has no plans to be a hero but fate doesn't care what he wants. Sometimes, no matter what you do, you aren't the one pulling the strings.

Author Interview

1. What inspired you to want to become a writer?
The power of hope. I was a lonely child, overweight and bullied. Stories gave me the courage to be a hero when needed, and not to give up when days were dark - and I had plenty of dark days.

2. Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Fanart. I love fanart and fanfiction because I know where they come from: love of a world someone else created. When I receive fanart, it tells me that someone loves my stories, and that’s the best thing I could hope for.

3. If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?
I really had to think about this one. There are so many beautiful classics and so many fantastic new tomes that this is difficult to choose. I think right at this moment, I’d pick Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I really admire his work, and that book delights me from head to toe.

4. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
The power to heal others.

5. Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Baby dragons, sexy-but-rebellious Fey princes, and deeply frustrated femme fatales: what’s not to like?

6. Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Yup! I’m currently working on an enormous epic science-fantasy work covering 15,000 years through the eyes of one terrifying and magnificent character: Notte. You can read about it here, including an excerpt and a chance to beta-read when it’s done: http://amongthemythos.com/books/notte/

7. Do you write as you go or do you have the book planned before you start the first draft?
I try to plan them out, I really do. It just doesn’t work. My characters tend to take over and inform me that my plans for them aren’t things they would do, throwing the whole thing off-track in the most wonderful way possible.

8. What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
Movie-wise: Age of Ultron and Captain America 3: Civil War for sure, even though I’m terrified they’re gonna kill off Steve Rogers (which might just push me back into the world of fanfiction. MUST. FIX. THAT.).

Book-wise: I’m really hoping for the third installment in Patrick Rothfuss’ Kingkiller trilogy, but I may just end up being disappointed there. :)

9. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
Hawaii, on the big island. I didn’t even have to think about that one.

10. Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
Bits and pieces. There are a lot of father-issues in my stories, born from my own confusion and struggles growing up in a small but intense spotlight. There also tends to be a theme of searching for identity, which is something that took me years to slog through. After all, we’re not always who others tell us we are, and figuring that out can take some time. I like to think other tiny details made it in, but to be honest, I don’t feel much like I am my characters. Rather, I feel like they’re often who I’d like to be.

About the Author
Indie author Ruthanne Reid writes about elves, aliens, vampires, and space-travel with equal abandon. She is the author of the series Among the Mythos, and believes good stories should be shared. Subscribe to her free email newsletter for free books and more at http://amongthemythos.com. You can connect with her on Twitter (http://twitter.com/ruthannereid), Facebook (http://facebook.com/mythos), or Tumblr (http://ruthannereid.tumblr.com), where she looks at too many kittens and Avengers blogs.

Ruthanne’s love of magic, urban environments, and deep space birthed a strange world with undercurrents of faith, magic, villainy, and heroism (along with swords and lasers, on occasion). Among the Mythos showcases aliens with all-too-human feelings, entire societies on the decline due to greed and fear, protagonists who might actually be the bad guys (or vice-versa), and endings every bit as messy as the world that creates them.

Ruthanne knows from experience that endings are messy. No matter how exotic the setting, how many limbs the characters have or what (if any) genders, the problems and questions addressed by a good story are very real, and that’s why they have power. If she has a theme, it is this: keep fighting, and keep pushing toward hope, because the struggle is worth the finish-line.
