“And go to the beach they did. Lexi
couldn’t get enough. He chased birds and chased birds. He chased birds so much
that Ms. Janice nicknamed him Bird Dog. He was having the time of his life. He
had never been to a place where he could run so fast and far. He galloped like
a stallion with his long mane flying in the wind. Sometimes he would wade in
the ocean to cool off. Then off he would trot to chase more birds.”
About the Author
Janice Wills Kingsbury grew up in New Jersey. She worked as a teacher and later as a School Psychologist for 18 years. Janice also taught reading and has a love of children's literature. Janice is also involved in animal rescue. Her children's books are written from the heart and portray her love of and knowledge about children and animals. The stories will capture children's interest and imagination. Age 6-12, but suitable for all ages, even adults.

ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I love that the author is involved in animal rescue! And books like this seem like a great way to get kids to love and respect animals, too. Instead of thinking of them as just objects, they get a basic idea of what's running through an animal's head (like this dog getting hot and running into the water to cool off). Anthropomorphizing, thinking that animals are like humans, should make people less likely to abuse them. Besides, we all know that dogs feel pain, jealousy, happiness, sadness, etc. Pets are like kids - they rely on you for everything and implicitly trust you (well, with rescue dogs, that may take some time). Abusing that should be more harshly punished. Help the helpless. <3 to Janice for this kid's book! It's a shame I don't have a kid or young relative to show this.

DeleteHe has never caught a bird, nor has the other dogs. They never stop trying though, and have a blast doing it!

ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome. And it really does seem that way. I grew up in a rural area, and we'd have strays running around that were terrified of people. Breaks my heart to see an animal that's suffered. As soon as my situation stabilizes and I can do so responsibly, I'm either adopting a shelter dog or I'll join the fostering system for one of the shelters here. I kind of know that whenever I go look for one, I'll be the first one I see that meets my lease requirements will come home with me. Young, old, whatever breed, I'll fall in love with and won't be able to send them back to their cage or kennel.
