Publisher: Tirgearr Publishing

Book Description:

After 27 years as a newspaper man, Peter Anderson’s career is slipping away, at least it was, until he stumbled upon the story of a lifetime. Sent to do a fluff piece about lights in the night sky over Arizona, he discovers far more than he ever expected when he comes upon a mysterious young woman held prisoner in a basement. After helping her to escape, she disappears before he can learn the truth about who she is or where she came from. His search for her leads him back to the lights in the sky and leaves him with more questions than answers. The only thing he knows for certain . . . the only thing he can count on are the two words offered repeatedly by his friend and guide . . . “IS BELT.”

Author Interview

1. Tell us a bit about your writing background. How did you get started writing science fiction?
Sci-Fi  has always been a part of my life. I have very little writing background at all. I wrote a few stories just to make my wife laugh and then a few for friends on Sunday mornings. Then as time  has gone by I’ve become more  focused, more in control of my imagery, and story telling has become more comfortable.

2. Who/What were your earliest influences?
I read comics growing up… Reed Richards was the leader of the Fantastic Four and I WANTED to be that guy. Thor, the Silver Surfer all people I wanted to emulate. Then as my taste and personal image matured I shifted to Asimov, Clark,  E.E. Doc Smith and Mark Twain...   I fell in love with them all ! Doubly so with E.E. Doc Smith.

3. Did you face any early challenges to finding success in writing?
I was somewhere in my late twenties / early thirties.  I had written a good number of short stories and tried desperately to get a gig as a newspaper contributor… one story a week, or a serial story but all to no avail so I thought I would write a book and came up with one called The Children of Grishma… an action adventure story.  I sent it everywhere, to everyone I could find to send it to… 17 or so. I only got back 3 rejections. Each was like getting hate mail from the worse people on earth, each more harsh than the first. I was crushed.  It would take almost 20 years before I would try again.

4. What are your favorite books as a reader today? What qualities in them appeal to you?
I love E.E. Doc Smith… big,  John Wayne type heros facing Galactic size problems… ya gotta love it !

5. What do you do outside your writing life?
I paint, I sculpt… very badly by the way.   I build furniture and I garden...  well at least that’s what I call it. My wife calls it feeding the gophers.

6. What advice do you have for beginning writers?
The only thing I can say is never give up.  Write,  read everything you can get your hands on and write some more.  I was rejected a total of 211 times before I found a publisher that loves what I write !   It’s like dating… you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you…. You know the rest !   Write, write, write… good - bad or in different just write and believe in your place among those that have been published.

7. What's up next for your fans?
At present I’m working on two books.  The first is the third book in my Series The Eve Project… The Cordovian Effect…  Time has passed and Ben Harris has as well.  He awakes to learn he is now one of Roger’s Dikika people... a machine and has been given a new identity...  Jon Ironwood.  Roger has made arrangements for his finical future and he is now ready to start a new life.  The problem is someone knows they are machines and is murdering the Dikika one at a time.

The other is the second in my Littlefield Series…  Black Moon and Tucker Littlefield is in big trouble.  Every 28 years there is a solar eclipse in the same exact spot… the spot the Kindred hold sacred.  With the sun’s passing and renewal a new leader… the Sholic…  is chosen and rules over the Kindred until the next eclipse.   With this passing the old Sholic is murdered  and the next in line is accused… threatening to throw the Kindred into civil war. Tucker Littlefield and his Mrs. are in way over their head when he accidently becomes the Sholic.

8. What has been your biggest compliment?
My wife laughs at all the right parts in my books, that and I’ve been published… repeatedly !   Who could ask for more ??

9. Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans and readers?
I was somewhere in my late twenties / early thirties.  I had written a good number of short stories and tried desperately to get a gig as a newspaper contributor… one story a week, or a serial story but all to no avail so I thought I would write a book and came up with one called The Children of Grishma… an action adventure story.  I sent it everywhere, to everyone I could find to send it to… 17 or so. I only got back 3 rejections. Each was like getting hate mail from the worse people on earth, each more harsh than the first. I was crushed.  It would take almost 20 years before I would try again.

About the Author
I was raised pretty much the same as everyone else... devoted mother, strict father and all the imaginary friends I could conjure. Not that I wasn't friendly, I just wasn't "people orientated". Maybe I lived in my head way more than I should have, maybe not. I liked machines more than people, at least I did until I met my wife.

The first thing I can remember writing was for her. For the life of me I can't remember what it was about... something about dust bunnies under the bed and monsters in my closet. It must have been pretty good because she married me shortly after that. I spent a good number of years after inventing games and prototypes for a variety of ideas before I got back to writing.

It wasn't a deliberate conscious thought, it was more of a stepping stone. My wife and I had joined a dream interpret group and we were encouraged to write down our dreams as they occurred. "Be as detailed as you can," we were told.

I was thrilled. If there is one thing I enjoy it's making people believe me and I like to exaggerate. Not a big exaggeration or an outright lie mine you, just a little step out of sync, just enough so you couldn't be sure if it were true or not.  When I write, I always write with the effort of "it could happen" very much in mind and nothing, I guarantee you, nothing, makes me happier.
