About the authors Jenny Morris & Kelley Lynn
Jenny S. Morris is a YA author who loves all things geek, may have a Kdrama addiction, and prefers the rainy NW to any place she's ever lived. Road to Somewhere is her debut novel.
Kelley Lynn was born and raised a Midwestern girl. She’s not afraid to sweat and fills her free time with softball, soccer and volleyball. (Though you probably don’t want her on your volleyball team.) She occasionally makes guest appearances as a female vocalist for area bands. Music plays a large role in her writing process as well as the characters and plot lines within her stories.

Guest Post by Kelley Lynn: What Is my Muse?
Alecia, thank you SO much for hosting a stop on our release tour for ROAD TO SOMEWHERE!
The question Alecia proposed for this guest
post is: What is my muse? When I first read her email, I was like everything!
But that wouldn’t make for a very interesting
guest post…
So I thought a little deeper.
ROAD TO SOMEWHERE is a coming of age story
of two sisters, written in alternating point of view by myself and my collab
partner, Jenny S. Morris. So for this story in particular, one of our biggest
muses was our own relationships with our sisters. I wrote the part of the
younger sister, Lucy, but I have never been a younger sibling (I’m the oldest
of the two children in my family.) It was fascinating to try and look at
everything from a younger sister’s point of view. And seeing Lucy through Jen’s
characters eyes (Charlie, the older sister) felt so realistic. Even though
these two girls are just in a book, their relationship, their decisions, their
hopes and fears, seem so real to me.
ROAD TO SOMEWHERE also had other muses.
Part of the book takes place in LA, the other part in Texas. I love music. I
used to sing in a band, actually. So depending on the location of the chapter I
was writing, I’d have Pandora on a certain station. Country, for when the girls
are flirting with their cowboys, mucking out horse stalls and swimming in their
grandparent’s pond. Pop/Rock when Charlie and her best friends are trying to
make it big as a singing group in LA. To tap into Lucy’s professional piano
training, I’d turn to the classical station, or pull up some crazy hard piano
piece on YouTube. Music, and the words within it, really helps me get into a
character’s head. And once there, who knows what’s going to happen.
No matter which book I’m writing (ROAD TO
SOMEWHERE is not my first), people are the ultimate muse. I travel a lot for my
day job, spending time in airports, airplanes, different cities, and different
hotels. I’m constantly watching people and analyzing why they act the way they
do. I make mental notes of the way people stand, talk to others, what they’re
wearing, how their hair is done. I jot down notes about people’s habits, the
tone of their voice, whether they look at a person when they’re speaking to
them. I’ll never go ‘Taylor Swift’ on anyone and put a replica of someone into
my stories, but bits and pieces of people I meet and observe are in the
characters I create. People are just fascinating.
Maybe that’s a long winded answer to say
“everything” is my muse. But now you’ve got a look inside my writerly mind. Hopefully
it wasn’t too scary.
Thanks so much for having me, Alecia!

Publisher: Bloomsbury Spark
Book Summary:
Book Summary:
New! From Bloomsbury Spark, a sunny heartwarming story of discovery and sisterhood.
A road trip. A singing competition. And super-hot cowboys.
What could be better?
For Charlie, a post-high school road trip isn't just a vacation, it's life changing. While her parents think she's helping a friend move, a chance at fame is the real reason to grab her best friends and drive to L.A. But when her super annoying, uber-responsible, younger sister, Lucy, has to tag along, it isn't quite the summer of fun she imagined.
Add in a detour to her grandparents' ranch in Texas, and between mucking the stalls, down-home cookin’, and drool worthy ranch hands, this could just turn into the best, and most complicated, summer of their lives.
